Phil Foden played a no-look backheel in the thirty-second minute on Wednesday night — and just like that, Arsenal's five-point lead is down to two.

Welcome back to The Full Time Report. I'm Tom. It has been a proper three days of football, and this is your bumper catch-up for everything that happened since Tuesday morning.

We've got City's three-nil demolition of Palace, the full FA Cup Final build-up — and that is tomorrow, by the way, Chelsea versus City at Wembley — tonight's absolutely enormous Palace versus Arsenal in the title race, the transfer desk with a couple of big new stories, and a look ahead to the Europa League final next Wednesday.

Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace

Right — let's get into it. Wednesday night, the Etihad, GW36 catch-up fixture. Manchester City three, Crystal Palace nil. And this result genuinely changed the shape of this whole title race.

Palace set up in a deep block, which is exactly what you'd expect from Oliver Glasner away at City. But it's Phil Foden who broke them open. His first league start since March — deployed in this unusual holding midfield role alongside Bernardo Silva — and he was just brilliant.

The first goal came on thirty-two minutes. Foden receives the ball, checks, checks again — and then rolls out this gorgeous no-look backheel into the path of Antoine Semenyo, who hits it first time, low and hard past Dean Henderson. Nine goals for the season for Semenyo. And that backheel was Foden's one hundredth Premier League goal involvement.

Eight minutes later, two-nil. Gvardiol crosses from the left — Gvardiol, who is back from a broken leg since January, by the way — Foden touches it on, and Marmoush spins and fires. That's one hundred and one involvements in the space of eight minutes.

Savinho added a third late on, finishing coolly after substitute Rayan Cherki burst through and threaded a perfect pass. Three-nil. Six changes from the Brentford win, and Guardiola still gets that result. That is squad depth.

Foden and Bernardo Silva

Guardiola was effusive about Foden afterwards. He said — and I love this quote — Foden «receives the ball in the small spaces and creates something that only good players can deliver.» He said he has to have a big role in the future, and the standing ovation from the Etihad crowd showed «how people love him.»

Foden himself said he'd had a good first half of the season, then dropped off — admitted he struggled to find his way back into the team with the quality around him. Patient, waited his moment, then produced that.

And there was a bittersweet element to the evening too, because Bernardo Silva captained the side in what was his penultimate home game before he leaves this summer. He came off on eighty minutes, standing ovation, passed the armband to Nathan Aké. Nine seasons, two hundred and seventeen Premier League wins — more than anyone else in that period. Guardiola said some players are just harder to replace. And Silva is one of them.

Title Race Maths

So — the title race. Let me give you the state of play. Arsenal, seventy-nine points from thirty-six games. Man City, seventy-seven from thirty-six. Gap of two. Two games each remaining.

Arsenal's remaining fixtures: Crystal Palace away tonight, Burnley at home on Monday the eighteenth. City's: FA Cup Final on Saturday obviously, then Bournemouth away on Tuesday, Aston Villa at home on the twenty-fourth.

The maths. If Arsenal win both their games, they are champions, full stop, doesn't matter what City do — first title in twenty-two years. If Arsenal win tonight and City slip up at Bournemouth, Arsenal can wrap it up on Monday night at home to Burnley.

But if Arsenal lose tonight? City are back in control. They win their remaining two, they're champions on goal difference — City have plus forty-three, Arsenal plus forty-two. Right? It is literally that tight.

Opta's supercomputer currently gives Arsenal an eighty-seven point two percent chance of winning the title. Guardiola, to his credit, was totally candid about it. He said: «Depends on them. If they win two games — nothing to do, nothing to talk. All we can be is in there just in case.» Genuinely humble. Whether that's gamesmanship or genuine acceptance — I'll leave that to you.

Micah Richards on Sky Sports put it well: «We constantly say with Arsenal — have they got the leader to take them over the line? They have shown they have. They are the favourites and nobody can say they are bottling it anymore.» And he's right.

FA Cup Final Preview

Right, let's shift to the FA Cup Final. Chelsea versus Manchester City. Wembley. Three o'clock tomorrow afternoon. BBC One and TNT Sports.

There were press conferences from both managers yesterday. Let's start with Chelsea and Callum McFarlane.

The big team news: Reece James is available. He came through a twenty-seven minute substitute appearance against Liverpool without any issues — had been out nearly a month with a hamstring problem. Levi Colwill is also available, and if you watched that Liverpool game last week, Colwill was exceptional. First ninety minutes in ten months, and McFarlane straight-up said he was the best player on the pitch.

Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho? Both trained well this week. McFarlane said they're looking — quote — «really good» and he's «really hopeful.» Both had muscle issues that ruled them out of the last two league games. Robert Sanchez has also returned to training after his head injury versus Forest.

Who's definitely out for Chelsea: Estevao, Gittens, and Derry. Estevao's hamstring injury against United ended his season. And Mudryk remains unavailable for legal reasons.

On the manager situation — you know how it is, every press conference right now, someone asks about the permanent job. McFarlane handled it well. Said: «There are a lot of names linked with the job. It's not really my place to say who should get it. My job is to prepare the team for Saturday.» Solid answer. Move on.

One more thing about McFarlane: his girlfriend's family are Chelsea season ticket holders — fifty years. They'll be at Wembley tomorrow. So there is some personal juice to this one.

Now Guardiola's side. The massive doubt is Rodri — groin injury sustained against Arsenal last month, missed five games. He didn't travel with the squad for the Palace match. Pep, when asked directly, just said: «I don't know. I don't know. We'll see in the next days.» That is not a man who knows his midfielder is fit.

Haaland was completely rested midweek — not even in the matchday squad. He starts tomorrow. Cherki and Doku expected back in the starting eleven too. And Gvardiol, as I mentioned, played nearly an hour on Wednesday so he should be fine.

Guardiola made an interesting complaint, which — I mean, it is a valid point. He said Chelsea have been home all week, training and preparing, sleeping in their own beds. City have to travel to London and stay in a hotel. «That is fatigue and fatigue and fatigue,» he said. Still, City are one-to-three on with the bookmakers. Chelsea are nine-to-four.

Pep is also going to Wembley with a bit of motivation — City lost the last two FA Cup finals. He said: «We lost the last two times because we were not good enough. We are going to go there to win.» That is not a relaxed man. That is a man who hates losing cup finals.

Predictions? Chris Sutton on BBC went for five-nil City. His reasoning: «Pep did not get the better of Thomas Tuchel. He is not going to be schooled by Callum McFarlane.» Harsh, but classic Sutton. Chelsea fan Songer went two-one Chelsea — and I thought his take was the most entertaining. He said: «It would just be the most Chelsea thing ever if we turn up at Wembley after being so poor for so long and give us a glimmer of hope.» Love that energy.

Transfer Desk

Okay — transfer desk. A couple of big stories have developed over the last three days.

Anthony Gordon → Bayern Munich (Tier 2 — Bild/Sky Sports Paper Talk; no Tier 1 confirmation yet): Personal terms between Gordon and Bayern are reportedly agreed. Newcastle are demanding £75M. Bayern's ceiling is reportedly around £65M plus add-ons — a ~£10M gap remains. The Bayern supervisory board is reportedly fully behind the move and backing Max Eberl to close the deal. Gordon wants to go. Tier 1 (Romano, Ornstein) silent so far.

Alisson Becker → Juventus (Tier 2 — Schira exclusive; no Tier 1 confirmation): Personal terms reportedly agreed — contract to 2029 at €5M/year. Juventus preparing their first formal bid to Liverpool. Picked up by Sky Sports Paper Talk. Not confirmed by Romano.

Xabi Alonso → Chelsea (Tier 1 confirmed — Ornstein/The Athletic): Chelsea actively exploring the appointment. The Times reports progress but Alonso is seeking «assurances» before formally agreeing. Chelsea targeting a permanent appointment by mid-June.

Bernardo Silva (Tier 1 — Romano): Confirmed wants to decide next club before the World Cup. Ruled out a Benfica return. Juventus deploying Ronaldo, Cancelo and Danilo as a persuasion committee; Galatasaray offering more money.

GW37 Preview — Palace vs Arsenal Tonight

Right — tonight. Crystal Palace vs Arsenal at Selhurst Park. Kick-off 8pm. The biggest game of the title race so far.

Scenarios:

Arsenal WIN → 82pts. Need a draw vs Burnley (Mon) to stay ahead if City win all remaining. If City drop at Bournemouth (Tue), Arsenal are champions on Monday.
Arsenal DRAW → 80pts. City can overtake by winning both remaining games (max 83pts).
Arsenal LOSE → 79pts. City fully control their destiny.

Arsenal are without Ben White (season over) and Calafiori is a doubt. Palace have nothing riding on this domestically, and have their Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano on May 27 to think about.
